Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEWARK, NJ – Richard Stockton pitching limited Rutgers-Newark to nine hits and no runs in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep, 5-0 and 4-0, on Alumni Field.

Scarlet Raider senior third baseman Monica Liotto went three for six in the twinbill, but Osprey right-handers Michelle Pietrocola (8-4) and Brittany Ksiezopolski (7-2) yielded five and four hits, respectively, as Rutgers-Newark (5-15, NJAC 0-6) suffered its sixth consecutive defeat.  Stockton (15-6, NJAC 2-4) ran its winning streak to three.

IN GAME ONE, Liotto went two for three with her fourth double of the season, but Pietrocola fanned 11 and walked no one to spoil a solid pitcher effort by Raider junior Brianna Alicchio (1-9).  Alicchio scattered nine hits while giving up just three earned runs in the loss.

Singles by freshman centerfielder Krista Casale, junior catcher Gabby Spinella and junior shortstop Tiara Santi accounted for the other Raider hits in the game.

Junior shortstop Grace Long went three for three to lead Stockton's attack while junior catcher Nicole Scanlon went two for three with a double in the first and a 2-RBI single in the fifth.  Scanlon scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by junior designated player Arielle Cooke in the top of the first.

IN GAME TWO, Raider junior right-hander Liane Drastal (4-6) gave up just two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out two, but Ksiezopolski matched Pietrocola with 11 strikeouts while walking just one.

Liotto, Santi, Drastal and senior first baseman Monica Bagan notched the base hits for the Raiders.

Down 2-0 in the sixth, Casale walked and Liotto singled to give the Raiders runners on the corners with one away, but Ksiezopolski struck out Spinella and Bagan to kill the threat.

A fielding error led to the game-winning run in the second inning before a throwing error following a triple by freshman rightfielder Nicole Tomo in the top of the sixth put the Raiders in a two-run hole.

A two-run triple by Scanlon in the top of the seventh gave the Ospreys some breathing room.

Rutgers-Newark travels to Kean on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for an NJAC doubleheader before visiting Old Westbury on Thursday for a non-conference twinbill.
