FARMINGDALE, NY – Freshman right side Chrissy Campanelli paced Rutgers-Newark with 17 points in a 3-1 win over Farmingdale State in Kenyon Hall. Game scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 28-26.
Campanelli registered 11 kills, six aces and 11 digs as Scarlet Raiders (4-2) posted their second straight win. Sophomore middle blocker Sharee Gordon added 10 kills to the attack while senior libero Paulina Walega came up with a team-high 18 digs.
Freshman setter Emilie Pulecio ran the offense with 36 assists while adding three aces and eight digs. Rookies Kathy Hormaza and Adrianna Pagnotta had 10 points each. Hormaza delivered five aces and put down five kills while Pagnotta contributed eight kills and a pair of aces.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Palladino and freshman middle blocker Maia Calde-Hinton paced the Rams (1-12) with nine kills and 11.5 points apiece. Palladino chipped in two aces, a blocking assist and 14 digs while Calde-Hinton added an ace, a solo block and a blocking assist. Freshman middle blocker Barbara Wright notched eight kills, one solo and one assisted block for FSU while sophomore setter Megan Pisciotta totaled 29 assists. Sophomore libero had a team-high 18 digs.
Rutgers-Newark starts its New Jersey Athletic Conference slate on Thursday at Ramapo College. The Roadrunners and Raiders square off in the Bradley Center at 7 p.m.
