NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark saw a 3-1 second-half lead slip away as unbeaten Rutgers-Camden earned a 4-3 overtime New Jersey Athletic Conference win on Alumni Field.

Junior forward Raphael Araujo netted his 14th and 15th goals of the season before senior forward Daniel Naranjo made it 3-1 in the 23rd minute, but the Scarlet Raiders (8-2-0, NJAC 0-1-0) would not find the net again.

Sophomore forward Mike Ryan collected a loose ball in the middle off of a deflection by a Scarlet Raider defender of a crossing pass from senior midfielder Stevan Austino and fired in the golden goal just 47 seconds into extra time.

The No. 7 nationally-ranked Scarlet Raptors (9-0-0, NAJC 1-0-0) got nine saves from senior goalkeeper Mike Randall as Rutgers-Newark put 12 of his 13 shots on goal. Raider sophomore goalkeeper Matt Broomall finished with five saves.

With Broomall down after a diving stop on a hard shot by junior defender Joe Auleta, senior defender Jason Chung went to the left post to kick away the rebound attempt by Auleta and send the match into the extra period.

Auleta whistled a shot past Broomall from 25 yards out in the 76th minute to trim the Raptor deficit to 3-2 before senior midfielder Keegan Balle controlled the ball in traffic following a corner kick to fire in the tying tally in the 81st minute.

Araujo headed a corner kick from the left side by freshman midfielder Anthony DeRisi from the right side of the box into the opposite side to level the score 13 minutes into the fray. Ryan crossed the ball from the left side to senior midfielder Mitch Grotti for a header which staked the Raptors to the early lead in the ninth minute.

Araujo blasted a shot form 30 yards out through Randall's hands before Naranjo one timed a loose ball off the goalkeeper and a defender after a corner kick in the 23rd minute to give Rutgers-Newark three goals in less than 10 minutes.

The match turned into a defensive struggle until Auleta's second-half goal.

Rutgers-Camden constructed a 20-13 edge in shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Raiders saw their school-record 8-match winning streak snapped while the Raptors extended their program record winning streak to nine and their unbeaten string to 21 (18-0-3) dating back to the 2012 season.

Rutgers-Newark now has a full week to prepare for an NJAC match against Ramapo College on September 28 on Alumni Field at 7:30 p.m.
