GLASSBORO, NJ – Rutgers-Newark never found its rhythm in a 76-67 New Jersey Athletic Conference loss to Rowan in Esby Gym.
Junior forward
Jade Howard finished with game-highs of 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Scarlet Raiders, but the Profs (3-12, NJAC 2-6) out-scored the visitors by 21 points at the free throw line to spell the difference. Rutgers-Newark made just five of 13 charity tosses while Rowan connected on 26-32 free throws.

Shala Glenn netted 10 points apiece for the Raiders while junior guard
Courtney Woodard added nine in a game which featured 52 turnovers. Rutgers-Newark generated 21 of its points off of 29 Prof turnovers.
Sophomore guard Kaitlin Schullstrom came off the bench to pace the Profs with 16 points by hitting six of nine shots from the floor. She added four rebounds and three steals. Junior guards Bria Hill and Jade Bonder netted 15 points each in the balanced Rowan attack. Bonder, who sank all 10 of her free throw attempts, dished off a game-high six assists while Hill hauled down six rebounds.
The Raiders battled from behind for the entire second half, cutting their deficit to 51-50 on a follow shot by sophomore center
Sharee Gordon with 7:52 left. Rowan then put together a decisive 12-2 run fueled by eight free throws to gain some breathing room. Senior forward Megan Russ hit a layup with 4:24 left to cap the spree and give the Profs a 63-52 lead.
Howard carried the Raiders in the opening half, twice pushing the Rutgers-Newark lead to seven points before a closing Rowan run gave the Profs a 31-30 edge at the break. Howard connected on a follow shot with 5:09 left in the period to stake the Raiders to a 26-19 lead. She totaled 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots in 16 minutes on the floor. But Rowan used a 12-2 spurt to take the lead. Bria Hill hit a jump shot from 1:45 on the clock to give the Profs a 31-28 lead before Rutgers-Newark freshman forward
Adayshia McKinnon had a put back basket with 33 seconds remaining to make it a one-point game at the break.
It marked the first game for the Raiders without senior point guard
ShaQuanna Marshall who suffered a knee injury in the first minute of Wednesday's 60-44 loss to Kean. Rutgers-Newark (7-8, NJAC 3-6) suffered its fourth straight loss in NJAC play to slip below the .500 mark for the first time this season.
