MONTCLAIR, NJ – A cold first half by Rutgers-Newark allowed No. 13 Montclair State to pull away for a 69-39 New Jersey Athletic Conference win in the Panzer Athletic Center.

The Scarlet Raiders (8-9, NJAC 4-7) got a dozen points apiece from forwards Jasmine Daniels and Jade Howard, but the league-leading Red Hawks (16-2, NJAC 10-1) limited the visitors to a season-low point total to complete a sweep of the regular-season series between the teams.

It was a far cry from the first meeting when MSU had to recover from a 20-point deficit to escape The Golden Dome Arena with a 70-68 decision.

Howard added eight rebounds while Daniels posted six rebounds and an assist.  Sophomore guard Arianna Williams collected a team-high four steals while adding seven points and three rebounds.  Freshman guard Shala Glenn dished off a team-high three assists, chipping in four points and two steals.

The starters accounted for all but four of the Raiders' points while the Red Hawk reserves tallied 25.

Junior guard Janitza Aquino scored a game-high 17 points while connecting on two of MSU's 10 buckets from 3-point range.  Senior guard Nicosia Henry barely missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds while making a game-high five steals.  Junior forward Melissa Tobie dished off a game-high five assists while notching 13 points and six rebounds.

Henry scored 11 points and Tobie added nine in the first half when the Red Hawks constructed a 29-15 lead by scoring 13 points off of 14 Raider turnovers.  Rutgers-Newark made just seven of 24 field goal attempts in the opening period while MSU connected on 50 per cent of its tries.

Daniels netted 10 points in the second half, but the Raiders fell for the fifth time in their last six conference games.

Rutgers-Newark hosts New Jersey City in an NJAC doubleheader on Wednesday night in The Golden Dome Arena.  The women's game tips off at 6 with the men to follow at 8.
