MAHWAH, NJ – Rutgers-Newark junior forward
Jade Howard barley missed a double-double with a dozen points and nine rebounds, but Ramapo College posted a 74-47 New Jersey Athletic Conference win in the Bradley Center.
The Scarlet Raiders (9-13, NJAC 5-11), who lost their fourth straight decision in league play, were eliminated from the race for one of six conference championship tournament berths while the Roadrunners (12-11, NJAC 9-7) locked up a berth while completing a sweep of the regular-season series between the teams.
Howard added three steals to her line for the night while senior forward
Jasmine Daniels totaled nine points and three rebounds despite being limited to just 22 minutes on the floor by foul trouble. Junior guard
Courtney Woodard notched a game-high four steals while adding seven points and a pair of assists.
Freshman guard
Shala Glenn contributed eight points, seven rebounds and a team-high three assists for the Raiders who got six rebounds and three points from junior center
Sharee Gordon.
Senior forward Michaela Moore posted game highs of 25 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots for Ramapo while guards Anna Fucci and Jackie Jerkovich netted 11 points apiece. Freshman forward Bintou Berete came off the bench for nine points and seven rebounds to help the Roadrunners generate a 29-11 edge in points from the bench as well as a 49-40 advantage in rebounding.
The Raiders made just one of 23 shots from beyond the arc to shoot a season-low 25% (18-27) from the field.
It will be Senior Night for Daniels and guard
ShaQuanna Marshall on Saturday when Rutgers-Newark hosts Rowan University in an NJAC doubleheader in The Golden Dome Arena. The senior duo will be honored in pregame ceremonies before the women's game tips off at 6. The men will follow at 8.
