Box Score NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark played most of the match on Widener's end of the pitch, but the Pride came away with a 3-0 win under the lights on a wet Alumni Field.
The Scarlet Raiders (3-2-1) outshot the visitors, 19-5, but Widener (3-3-0) made the most of its scoring opportunities to hand Rutgers-Newark its second straight loss after a 3-0-1 start to the season. It was the first time that the Raiders have been shutout this season.
Senior midfielder
Sarah Cunha put three of her four shots on goal as the Raiders peppered Pride goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz with 10 shots. The junior made six saves in the first period and four in the second to notch her third shutout of the season.
Senior forward Jaclyn Miller stunned Rutgers-Newark by scoring on the opening possession of the match. Freshman midfielder Eva Reyes dribbled past a defender just inside the end line on the left side and sent a cross to the center of the box where Miller sent a shot into the right side just 52 seconds into the fray.

Veronika Tueros to the turf and gave the Pride a 2-0 edge in the 25th minute.
Rutgers-Newark fired a dozen shots during the opening period and took three of its four corner kicks, but Pfautz and some bad luck combined to keep the Raiders off the board. Junior midfielder
Sara Corson sent a shot over Pfautz and off the bottom of the crossbar in the 22nd minute in what would be the Rutgers-Newark's best chance of the half.
With the Pride in full defensive posture for the second period, the Raiders outshot the visitors 7-1. Senior forward Gina Scotto tallied the only goal of the half when she one timed a crossing pass to the left side of the box from junior defender Brae McQuade into the left side of the net.
Tueros (1-1-1), who made one first period save, left the game in the 86th minute after a collision.
Rutgers-Newark visits Old Westbury on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before kicking off its New Jersey Athletic Conference slate by hosting The College of New Jersey on Friday night on Alumni Field.
