Box Score NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark won its third straight match by controlling play throughout a 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over New Jersey City in The Golden Dome Arena.
The balanced Scarlet Raiders (10-5, NJAC 2-2) hit a crisp .304 (30 kills, six errors, 79 attacks) behind the setting of freshman
Nathalie Breining who also delivered a match-high four aces in the 25-8, 25-13, 25-17 decision.
Junior middle blocker
Sharee Gordon was a force at the net with a match-high 13 points on nine kills, three solo blocks and a pair of blocking assists while freshman outside hitter
Karolina Kopacz added seven kills, three aces and a blocking assists.
The Raiders totaled 13 aces with sophomores

Kathy Hormaza chipping in three apiece as the team was just one off of its season's high.

Sue Riley led Rutgers-Newark with a dozen digs while Hormaza added nine and Breining eight. Rookie outside hitter
Samantha Renfree hammered down six kills on just 11 swings without an error to hit a match-high .545.
No Raider hit below level for the contest while the Gothic Knights (2-11, NJAC 0-3) were held to negative attack numbers for the match.
Senior middle hitter Jade Medley paced NJCU with nine kills and a solo block while sophomore middle hitter Shege Haxhaj posted 7.5 points on five kills, a pair of aces and a blocking assist. Senior outside hitter Marisa Scarpa tied Riley with a match-high 12 digs while freshman setter Rachel McIntyre registered 19 assists and six digs.
The Raiders hit .526 in game one, breaking away from an early 3-3 tie to dominate play behind Gordon who had four kills without an error on five swings and added a pair of solo blocks.
In game two, Rutgers-Newark erased an early 4-3 deficit to take complete control of the match. Kopacz led the way with three kills and a pair of service aces while Gordon added three kills and a blocking assist.
The Raiders led wire-to-wire in the third frame with Renfree putting down four kills on five attacks without an error.
The three match winning streak is the longest of the year for the Raiders.
Rutgers-Newark travels to Sarah Lawrence College on Friday night at 7 for a non-conference match before returning to The Golden Dome on Tuesday for an NJAC battle against Rowan.
