NEWARK, NJ – Freshman outside hitter Karolina Kopacz tallied a match-high 12 kills to help Rutgers University-Newark roll past Brooklyn College, 3-0, in The Golden Dome Arena.  Game scores were 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.
 
Kopacz hit .429 with just three errors in 21 attempts while adding a pair of service aces to post 14 points as the Scarlet Raiders (2-0) posted their second straight sweep to start the season.
 
Sophomore middle blocker Christina Maglione notched 10.5 points with eight kills, a solo block and three blocking assists while freshman outside hitter Samantha Renfree chipped in seven kills and got in on a block for Rutgers-Newark.
 
Freshman setter Nathalie Breining distributed 28 assists, dumped in two kills, delivered an ace, got in on two blocks and came up with eight digs for the Raiders while sophomore defensive specialist Kathy Hormaza roped two aces and made four digs.
 
Freshman libero Sue Riley range up a match-high 20 digs with classmate Sydney Tuman reaching double digits in digs with 11.  Junior middle blocker Sharee Gordon totaled five kills and a pair of blocking assists.  Sophomore right side Hannah Riede also got in on two blocks and added a kill for the balanced Raiders.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Francesca LoCascio and sophomore outside hitter Anna Li paced the Bulldogs (1-5) with seven kills apiece with LoCascio adding an ace, two solo blocks and a blocking assist for 10.5 points.  Freshman setter Jessica Yin tallied 19 assists and dropped in two kills.
 
Rutgers-Newark rallied from slow starts in all three games to earn the sweep.
 
Kopacz had four kills on five swings in the opening set when the Raiders broke away from a 17-16 deficit with a strong finish.  Renfree hammered down back-to-back kills to finish the frame.
 
In game two, Maglione led a balanced attack with three kills in just five attacks while Hormaza, Breining and Kopacz delivered aces as Rutgers-Newark climbed out of an 11-5 hole.
 
Kopacz exploded for seven kills on 10 swings and added an ace in the third frame to offset an 8-4 lead by the Bulldogs.
 
Rutgers-Newark hosts Farmingdale State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to end a string of three straight non-conference matches in The Golden Dome to start the season.
