NEWARK, N.J. (October 13, 2015) – The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team will host Montclair State University Tuesday night in The Golden Dome Arena. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. as the two teams look for a big New Jersey Athletic Conference win.
The winner of the conference showdown will have a leg-up on postseason berths. Rutgers-Newark comes into Tuesday's match at 1-3 in NJAC play (10-8 overall), and MSU is 11-7 and 2-2 in the conference.
NJAC Standings The top-six make the playoffs and the Raiders are one game behind fifth and sixth place Montclair and Kean University – both 2-2. Last year, the Red Hawks were victorious on their home court by a score of 3-1.
R-N checks in No. 40 nationally in opponent hitting percentage (.112), sitting third in the NJAC in that category and third in the conference in blocks per set (1.49).
Individually, freshman
Cassie Luken is fourth in the NJAC in aces per set, while senior
Sharee Gordon and sophomore
Sue Riley are fifth in blocks per set and digs per set, respectively. Gordon is averaging .80 and Riley is at 4.25.
MSU is third among NJAC foes in assists per set, aces per set, hitting percentage and kills per set, sitting second in digs per set.
