Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Freshman pitcher Kelly Yusko (Portage, PA/Penn Cambria) scattered five hits to earn one win, then had two hits, including a homer, and three RBI to help gain another, as the Rutgers-Newark softball team earned two victories at the Snowbird Classic Tuesday.
The two victories enabled the Scarlet Raiders to even their seasonal record at 3-3.
First, Yusko took the mound against Morrisville State and led the Scarlet Raiders to a 10-2 victory. Yusko allowed just one earned run in six innings (the game was stopped after six due to the 8-run mercy rule) and struck out 12, including striking out the side in the final frame.
In that win, the Scarlet Raiders scored once in the first inning, then exploded for five in the second inning and four more in the sixth.
Freshman catcher Sam Held (Maywood, NJ/Paramus Catholic) had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Junior centerfielder Kelsey Lucas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had two doubles, scored three runs and had an RBI. In the second win of the day, an 11-5 win over Arcadia, Yusko keyed a three-run second inning with a homer, her third of the young season. Freshman left fielder Maria Rayfield (Commack, NY/Commack) had a two-run single in the third. Rayfield ended the game with two hits and two RBI.
Senior Tonianne Donde (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) smacked three hits and scored a run, as the Scarlet Raiders recovered from an early 5-0 deficit to earn the victory.

Walitzer also delivered an RBI groundout in a three-run fifth inning, a frame where Yusko also had a two-run single.
