NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers University-Newark will host York College (NY) in the opening round of the ECAC Metro Men's Basketball Championship Tournament on Wednesday night at 7 in The Golden Dome Arena.

The Scarlet Raiders (18-9), the second seed in the 8-team field, are in the ECAC playoffs for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons under 14^th-year head coach Joe Loughran.  Rutgers-Newark earned NCAA D-III at-large bids in 2010 and 2013 in the other two seasons.
 
This will be the first meeting in ECAC play against the Cardinals (14-13) of the City University of New York Athletic Conference in program history.  Jim Hill led the Scarlet Raiders to their only ECAC Metro title in 1996 and Chris Casey got Rutgers-Newark into the playoffs to cap the 2000-01 season.
 
The Raiders were downed in the NJAC Championship semifinals, 70-54, by eventual winner Richard Stockton last week while York was edged, 52-50, in the CUNYAC semifinals by eventual winner Baruch College.
