Baseball Falls at TCNJ in NJAC Clash

EWING, N.J. (April 24, 2015) – The Rutgers-Newark baseball team was defeated by The College of New Jersey by a score of 11-4 at George Ackerman Park Friday night.
 
TCNJ moves to 15-15 overall and 8-8 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 11-25 overall and 1-15 in the conference.
 
Rutgers-Newark was led by left fielder Danny Iannaccone who went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and designated hitter Rowland Goodman who was 2-for-4. Leadoff man and center fielder Anthony Perconte was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in a solid performance as Rutgers Newark recorded seven hits and seven walks in the contest.
 
Junior Ryan MacFarlane suffered the loss on the hill for Rutgers-Newark, going 5.1 innings and allowing eight runs. Freshman Dan Murphy was solid in relief for R-N, going the final 2.2 frames and allowing one earned run on three hits.
 
Ryan Carmon earned the win for the Lions, allowing one run and five hits over 5.0 innings. He improves to 2-1 on the season.
 
TCNJ had a 3-0 lead after three with a sacrifice fly from shortstop Carlos Cruz driving in senior backstop Dan Lopez for the first Rutgers-Newark run of the game in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the Lions were able to push across six runs in their half of the sixth frame to take a 10-1 lead, essentially locking up their eighth NJAC win of the season.
 
Rutgers-Newark scored two in the seventh to close out the guest scoring, as Iannaccone drove in Perconte with a triple and then scored on a groundout from Goodman.
 
Designated hitter Garen Turner was one of four TCNJ players with multiple hits, driving in a game-high three runs for the hosts.
 
Rutgers-Newark will close its 2015 schedule Saturday when it hosts Richard Stockton in an NJAC doubleheader at Riverfront Stadium beginning at 11:30 a.m. Prior to first pitch, the Scarlet Raiders will honor six seniors playing for the final time in Newark – Jonathan Dominguez, Nick Gencarelli, Goodman, Lopez, Shane Nolan and Andrew Nasti.
