The Scarlet Raiders scored at 5:41 and never looked back. Amazingly, R-N has now scored before eight minutes have elapsed in three-straight matches, and on Wednesday it was Gostynski giving his team the early lead when he buried a shot from the left side of the goalie box.
Muniz stayed hot with a score at 26:53, putting home a rebound after a shot off the foot of De Sousa banged off the post. The score was his fourth of the season and fourth in the team's last four outings.
De Sousa set up Castro in the 35th minute to give the Scarlet Raiders a 3-0 margin, and the final marker came at 54:50 when Torres found the net for the first time this season. Golabek assisted on the play and was credited with his first point as a member of Rutgers-Newark.
Rutgers-Newark was relentless, outshooting the Knights 10-0 in the first half and 20-4 overall. R-N finished with an 8-2 margin in corners, and the Scarlet Raiders held the hosts with a single shot attempt for nearly 62 minutes to start the game.
Freshman
Matt Cabrera (two saves) and veteran
Elmer Flores split the game in goal, combining for the shutout. It was the team's second shutout of the year and second in as many outings as the Scarlet Raiders have now not allowed a single tally against in the last 240:37 of game time. Flores was credited with the victory.
