NEWARK, N.J. (October 24, 2017) – The nationally-ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team will host William Paterson University Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. on Alumni Field, and prior to the game, seven seniors in
Chigozie Atubi,
Carlos Castro,
Hubert Dul,
Isaiah Kuris,
Giuseppe Pollicino,
Arek Szoldrowski and
Alex Torres will be honored as part of the annual Senior Night festivities.
This group has helped lead Rutgers-Newark to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, a trip to the 'Elite Eight', an ECAC Metro title and an NJAC regular-season crown.
Rutgers-Newark will bring an overall record of 17-2-0 and a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) mark of 7-1-0 into Wednesday night's game against the Pioneers. The Scarlet Raiders have already locked up a first round bye in the NJAC Championship Tournament and will be playing for conference playoff seeding and regional positioning for potential NCAA at-large scenarios.

William Paterson is 10-4-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference. The Pioneers are coming off a 1-1 tie against Rutgers University-Camden Saturday afternoon and are 1-0-2 in their last three outings. Paterson is currently sixth in the league ledger with one conference game remaining for all 10 NJAC teams, and six squads make the conference tournament. Rutgers-Newark is one point behind Rowan University who has a league mark of 7-0-1 and 22 points.

The Rutgers-Newark defense has been stingy all season long, leading the league and ranking sixth nationally with a .362 goals-against average. The team is eighth nationally and first in the conference in shutout percentage (.684) and seventh in the country in save percentage (.903). The Scarlet Raiders lead the conference in winning percentage (.895) and are top-20 nationally in total goals, total points, shots on goal per game and shots per game.

Andres Medina currently leads the nation in individual shutouts with 10, sitting third in minutes played, seventh in goals-against average and eighth in save percentage. Classmate
Fabio De Sousa is second natonally with seven game-winning goals and his 36 points place him tops in the NJAC and No. 13 in Division III. De Sousa – the reigning NJAC Offensive Player of the Week - is 16th in goals and fifth in shots on goal per game.
As a team, Rutgers-Newark has five players with at least 10 points in De Sousa, Dul (16), Atubi (15), junior
Stefano Muniz (14) and freshman
Ariel Parada (10). An amazing 21 Scarlet Raiders have at least one point, while 14 players have scored at least one of the team's 49 goals.
