NEWARK, N.J. (December 14, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team will look to end the 2017 portion of its schedule strong Saturday afternoon against non-conference rival Drew University in The Golden Dome.
The Scarlet Raiders will bring a record of 4-6 into Saturday, while the Rangers are 6-3 overall and boast a four-game winning streak.
As of Thursday morning, Rutgers-Newark cracks the top-50 nationally in a variety of statistical rankings. R-N is 33rd in total rebounds with 385 and 34th nationally in total blocks (34). The team's 75.9 percent conversion rate from the foul line is 37th-best in all of Division III, while the Scarlet Raiders' 76 thefts has them just outside the top-50 (No. 52).
Senior center
Dave Lunsford and his 19 blocked shots are No. 14 in the nation after an excellent 13-point, 13-rebound, six-block performance Monday night. Lunsford is 34th in blocked shots per game (1.90), while junior guard
Tyler Ofray sits 35th in free throws made (44). Additionally, sophomore guard
Chase Barneys is 35th in the country in total minutes with 318.
After a tough start to the season, the Scarlet Raiders have won two-straight games, topping conference foe Rutgers University-Camden Saturday and coming back to defeat Centenary College Monday night.
