NEWARK, N.J. (February 10, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark basketball teams will honor their seniors during the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader against Rowan University Saturday night in The Golden Dome.

The women will get the doubleheader started at 6 p.m. and the men follow at 8 p.m. with the annual Senior Night ceremony coming just before tip-off in both cases.

On the women's side, a trio of senior guards will be honored in Shala Glenn, Sarah Schwartz and Maria Simmons. On the men's side, forward Nadir Alston will be the only honoree.

The Scarlet Raider women are currently one game out of an NJAC Tournament berth with two games remaining. R-N has a record of 7-9, while William Paterson University and The College of New Jersey are both 8-8. Rowan is in fourth place at 9-7 as the top-six teams in the conference make the postseason tournament.

The Profs topped the Scarlet Raiders in Glassboro in mid-January, but Rutgers-Newark has been playing its best basketball of the season having won 3-of-4 in the NJAC over the last two weeks.

R-N's men need to win their final two conference games of the season – against Rowan and The College of New Jersey – to have a chance at an NJAC Tournament berth. The Scarlet Raiders are 6-10 inside the conference, and are tied for seventh with William Paterson University. Stockton University and Montclair State University are in spots five and six with a league mark of 8-8.

Rowan won at home in the first matchup on January 14, but historically the Profs have struggled in Newark having not won a regular-season game in The Golden Dome over the last nine years.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the games as women's Senior Night is slated to start at approximately 5:45 p.m. The start of men's Senior Night is slated for 7:50 p.m. but could be pushed back due to the women's contest which precedes it.

Those unable to make the regular-season finale for each team in The Dome can catch all the action live and for FREE at www.rutgersnewarkathletics.com/watch.
