NEWARK, N.J. (April 22, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team was swept in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader Saturday night at Riverfront Stadium by Ramapo College.
The Roadrunners won the opener 18-0, and took the nightcap, 14-2.
The Scarlet Raiders fall to 21-10-1 overall and 8-6 in the NJAC, while Ramapo improves to 18-14 overall and 11-3 in league play.

The guests scored three runs in the top half of the second inning on several well-placed hits, and never looked back behind starting pitcher John Doherty.
Doherty held the Scarlet Raider offense at bay and without a hit until a double with two outs in the ninth inning. He picked up his second win of the season with 8.2 frames of one-hit ball.

Mike Zibrin took the loss to fall to 5-2 on the year. The junior went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Freshman
Connor Clare tallied the Scarlet Raider hit, walloping a double deep in the left-center-field gap with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
The Roadrunner offense opened a 4-0 lead after five and tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth to go on top 7-0. The game got out of hand late as the Roadrunners scored an additional 10 runs in the ninth inning.
Ramapo 14, Rutgers-Newark 2
Ramapo was able to race out of the gate in the second game, scoring eight runs in the first and six times in the second for a 14-0 margin.
The Scarlet Raiders scored their two tallies in the bottom of the third. Freshman
Colin Powers walked to lead off the frame, and freshman
JC Ball singled up the middle with one out. Junior
Anthony Perconte walked to load the bases with two outs, and senior
Josh Cote singled home Powers with the team's first run. Ball scored the second tally on an error.
Reliever
Dan Murphy did an excellent job in relief for Rutgers-Newark, throwing the final 3.1 innings. The junior allowed no runs and two hits, striking out a trio of Roadrunner batters.
Jerry D'Andrea earned the win for Ramapo, going the distance and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with eight strikeouts.
The game was shortened to five innings.
What's next? The Scarlet Raiders will return to the diamond April 25 when they host Lehman College in a non-conference contest at Riverfront Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
