POMONA, N.J. (April 28, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team suffered a 9-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss at Stockton University Friday afternoon.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 8-8 in the NJAC and 22-12-1 overall, while Stockton improves to 7-9 in conference play and 15-17 overall. The Scarlet Raiders will close the regular-season portion of their schedule Saturday at TD Bank Park – home of the Somerset Patriots – against NJAC rival Montclair State University. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. and prior to the contest, R-N will honor its seniors

After putting just one runner on base through the first three innings, Rutgers-Newark broke through with the first run of the game in the fourth. Junior
Anthony Perconte singled to lead off, and stole second to move into scoring position. The third-year man moved to third with one out on a groundout from Cote, and he then scored on a wild pitch.
The Ospreys took the lead for good in a tough sixth inning, scoring four runs on one hit and four errors.

John Klimowich allowed the Scarlet Raiders to bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Newark could not capitalize, and Stockton scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the frame to open a 7-1 advantage.
After Stockton added two scores in the bottom of the eighth, Rutgers-Newark scored one in its half of the ninth as Striglia singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit off the bat of freshman
Colin Powers.
Rutgers-Newark registered six hits in the game and leading the way was Perconte who went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases. Cote, Powers (1B, RBI), Strigilia (1B, R) and freshman
JC Ball had the other Raider hits, with junior
Adam Tricarico and Marks each pocketing a pair of walks.

Anthony Rosoline dropped to 3-3 on the season with a hard-luck loss. The righty scattered just three hits over six-plus innings, allowing six unearned runs and striking out four. Junior
Dan Murphy and freshman
Brandon Terrizzi each pitched one inning in relief, allowing three unearned runs on four hits combined.
Kevin Buell improved to 1-2 on the season with 6.2 solid innings for Stockton, allowing a run on three hits.
