JAMAICA, N.Y. (April 14, 2018) - The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team won its second consecutive match and first road contest 9-0 at York College. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 3-6 while the Cardinals fall to 0-6.
Senior
Brandon Davis led the way as he failed to drop a single game in both of his matches. At the top doubles position, Davis and rookie
Veer Kachhiapatel blanked their opponents 8-0 while Davis went on to win his first singles contest 6-0, 6-0. Kachhiapatel also took care of business at No. 2 singles, fighting back to win 6-7, 6-2, 10-4.
Junior
Richard Nguyen and senior
Kevin Martin partnered up for the second doubles match and earned an 8-2 victory. Nguyen and Martin each produced straight set wins in singles as Nguyen won at No. 4 6-0, 6-1 and Martin defeated his fifth singles foe 6-4, 6-4.
At the third doubles spot, sophomores
Alan Yu and
Vihang Patel wrapped up the doubles sweep by matching Nguyen and Martin with an 8-2 win. Patel replicated Davis' effort, blanking his opponent at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0. Yu also cruised at the third singles position, conceding just three games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
