Julie Contravo of the Rutgers University-Newark softball team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Contravo and the Scarlet Raiders have two regular-season games left against conference rival Ramapo College Monday and will then turn their attention towards a possible Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Tournament berth.
Contravo went 6-for-12 for R-N last week as the Scarlet Raiders split with nationally-ranked Rowan University and were swept at Stockton University.
Contravo had multiple hits in two games and hit safely in three, blasting one homer with one run scored and two RBI on the week. She went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in a loss at Stockton Saturday, and picked up two hits in three trips in a win over Rowan on Tuesday. Contravo finished the week with a .500 batting average and .750 slugging percentage.
In 2018, Contravo is mashing .320 overall in 35 starts. She has a team-high six homers and is slugging .572. The first base/designated hitter has 14 extra-base hits, a team-leading 28 RBI and a team-high 59 total bases.
