Sharon Starling Named NJAC Rookie of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. (September 24, 2018) – Freshman Sharon Starling of the Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.
 
Starling helped propel Rutgers-Newark to a 2-1 week as the Scarlet Raiders improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC after a win over league foe Ramapo College Thursday night in the Brick City and a split in a tri-match Saturday.
 
The Toms River rookie registered 38 kills, 26 digs, 17 aces, three blocks and 56.5 points in 13 sets played.

In the victory over Ramapo, Starling put down a career-high 16 spikes and she averaged 2.92 winners per set on the week.
 
The Scarlet Raider right side had a Saturday to remember with the serve, tallying 17 aces in nine sets. Starling averaged 1.30 aces per set and 2.0 digs per set for the week, lifting eight digs or more in all three outings.
 
Starling currently is No. 1 in the NJAC in aces per set on the season (1.04) and she cracks the top-25 in kills per set at 1.84.
