Elmira, NY | Rutgers-Newark played in their second consecutive five-set match, however, this time they came out on top, toppling the Spartans of D'Youville College, 3-2.
The Scarlet Raiders (13-5) tallied 20 more kills than their opponents while also outhitting them .297 to .133 at the Speidel Gymnasium.

Arvind Kumar, and
Kyle Loesner all smashed double-digit kills with Dorkhman leading the way with 17.
Rutgers-Newark 3, D'Youville 2 (25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-7)
Nicholas Arce-Cox led the way for the Scarlet Raiders with a hitting percentage of .429, tallying seven kills and just one error on 14 total attacks. Balance was the name of the game as six other Raiders picked up kills in the win.
Danny Quay stacked the stat sheet with seven kills, four blocks, four aces, and three digs.
Kumar and Loesner were efficient in the win as they picked up 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Travis Emenaker paced the team with 29 assists while
Arnan Romua trailed closely with 25.
D'Youville (4-11) was led by Pat Stroh and Ryan Kilijanski who each had 10 kills. Karl Jauch passed his way to a match-high 32 assists.
After taking the lead early in the opening set with a 3-0 run, the Scarlet Raiders never looked back as they were able to dominate and cruise to their largest win of the match.
In the second set, D'Youville got on top of Rutgers-Newark early using a 6-1 run to pave the way to knot the match up at one. The Scarlet Raiders nearly made a comeback outscoring the Spartans 6-2 down the stretch, however, the Spartans slammed the door shut putting an end to the Scarlet Raider surge.
The Scarlet Raiders used an early lead to put away the Spartans in the third set. Rutgers-Newark further increased their lead midway through the set when they went on a 7-1 run. Dorkhman led the way during that surge, picking up three kills to help his team take a 2-1 lead in the match.
D'Youville marked their highest kill total of the match in the elimination game, tallying 14 matching that of the Scarlet Raiders. The Spartans won the error battle, committing just three compared to five for the Scarlet Raiders. Trailing by as much as five down the stretch a Quay ace brought it within one (22-21). Unfortunately, the Spartans would regain momentum and close out the fourth set to force a winner take all fifth set.
After just playing a five-set match against Misericordia just three days prior the Scarlet Raiders were prepared for the extra set. Rutgers-Newark used their experience to lift themselves to a 15-7 win and bounce back into the win column.
