Elmira, NY | After defeating D'Youville yesterday night in a five-set match the Scarlet Raiders found themselves in another five-set match to kick off the day. Rutgers-Newark would fall to host Elmira before falling to MIT in straight sets to close out their day.
The Scarlet Raiders came into the day looking to string together a couple of wins at the Elmira College Invitational. Unfortunately, the Scarlet Raiders found stiff competition that held them winless on the second day.
Elan Dorkhman tallied 32 kills, 10 errors and had 68 total attacks in the two matches with 21 of them coming from the five-set match against Elmira.
Arvind Kumar tallied 16 kills with 14 errors in the pair with 41 total attacks.
Elmira took a two-set lead over Rutgers-Newark in the opening game of the afternoon. With their backs against the wall, the Scarlet Raiders came out and won set three and four to force a fifth set. Rutgers-Newark, unfortunately, was unable to complete the comeback as Elmira squeezed past, 15-13.
After spending so much energy in the opening match the Scarlet Raiders had to face one of the top teams in the invite in MIT. The Engineers proved to be too formidable for the Scarlet Raiders as they knocked them off in three straight sets.
Arnan Romua tallied 42 assists on the day, a team-high while also leading with a team-high 12 digs.
The Scarlet Raiders now have a 10-day break before they return to the court. Rutgers-Newark will return on Tuesday, March 26 where they will face the College of Saint Elizabeth.
