Baseball Keeps Win Streak Alive With Sweep of Stockton

NEWARK, N.J. | Coming off an offensive onslaught the day before, the Scarlet Raiders kept their bats hot when they took on Stockton University this afternoon at Weequahic Park. Rutgers University-Newark earned a 10-5 win in game one before taking down the Osprey's 7-2 in game two. The much-needed wins boost the Scarlet Raiders 12-15, 6-8 NJAC while Stockton University dropped to 13-14, 3-10 NJAC.

Game 1: Rutgers University-Newark 10, Stockton 5

Casey Hanley got the start on the mound but it was Jamir Ramos (1-0) who picked up the win this afternoon. Ramos tossed 2.1 innings and didn't allow a single hit and walked just one batter.

Ryan Zucker went 4-for-5 with a run while John Klimowich, for the second game in a row, hit a grand slam while going 3-for-4 with five RBI and a run. Luke Magliaro finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs.

Stockton put a run on the board to open the game, however, the Scarlet Raiders answered with two runs of their own. Luke Magliaro tattooed the ball over the left field fence to bring in his brother Dominic Magliaro for a two-run homer to take the lead.

Connor Clare hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to push the Scarlet Raiders' lead out to four after they scored a pair of runs in the previous inning.

The Osprey's put a scare into the Scarlet Raiders by scoring four runs and tying the game up at five in the top of the seventh. Four hits, highlighted by a Reedy two-RBI double, led to four runs for Stockton.

With the game tied at five, the Scarlet Raiders dug in and looked to regain control of the game in the bottom of the eight and did just that. With two men on, D. Magliaro hit a double to left center to bring in what would be the game-winning run. L. Magliaro would load the bases after being intentionally walked which brought up the powerful Klimowich. Klimowich took four pitches before finding the perfect one which he sailed over the left-center field wall for his second grand slam in the same amount of days.

The Osprey's were held scoreless in the top of the 9th to hand the Scarlet Raiders a game one win.

Game 2: Rutgers University-Newark 7, Stockton 2

Luis Rojas (1-5) was handed the ball in game two for the Scarlet Raiders and pitched well in seven innings of action. Rojas allowed two runs on two hits and struck out seven batters while tossing 117 pitches.

Chris Suleski went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored while Michael Streim went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run. Zucker finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run while Klimowich tallied two hits in four at-bats with three runs and an RBI.

Rutgers University-Newark scored all the runs they would need to win the game in the opening frame, notching four runs behind a Suleski two-RBI double to right field.

Stockton cut into the lead in the top of the fourth with a run but was unable to add more to that until the top of the sixth to which the Scarlet Raiders responded with a pair of runs.

The Scarlet Raiders will look to keep their win streak alive when they host New York University on Tuesday, April 23 at 4:00 pm.
