Aston, PA | The Scarlet Raiders took on the Scarlet Raptors in a rescheduled game for game two of a home and away. Rutgers-Newark tallied two runs in the first inning and one in the sixth to avenge their loss from last week, 3-2.
Casey Hanley (3-1) pitched eight innings and allowed just two runs on 9 hits. Hanley struck out two batters and walked three in the win over Rutgers-Camden.
Dominic Magliaro led the Scarlet Raiders with two runs and an RBI while going for 2-for-3 from the dish.
Ryan Zucker also finished 2-for-3 and scored the other run.
Despite tallying more hits than the Scarlet Raiders, the Scarlet Raptors were unable to bring more than two runs in. John Guccione tallied the most hits for the Scarlet Raptors, going 3-for-4 with a run. Billy Eisler brought in the pair of runs while going 1-for-4 in the game.
Rutgers-Newark (7-11, 1-5 NJAC) took an early lead by scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning. Zucker got the Scarlet Raiders started with a single to center field before D. Magliaro doubled down the right field line to bring Zucker home. On that same play, D. Magliaro was able to move to third via an error by the right fielder. Much like Zucker, D. Magliaro didn't have to wait to cross home as his brother
Luke Magliaro brought him home with a sacrifice fly to right field.
D. Magliaro hit his second double of the game in the top of the sixth to lead off the inning. Once again the Magliaro connection would score a run for the Scarlet Raiders as a sacrifice bunt partnered with an error allowed D. Magliaro to cross the plate.
Rutgers-Camden (10-12, 3-3 NJAC) finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when they scored when Eisler was walked while the bases were loaded. Rutgers-Camden put a scare into Rutgers-Newark in the bottom of the 9th when they scored another run to cut the lead down to one. An infield single by Eisler allowed a run to cross but that was all they would get as the Scarlet Raiders shut down their opponents for their first NJAC win of the season.
Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a non-conference game against Alvernia tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9 in Reading, PA.
