Starlings 12 Kills Not Enough To Lift #RUNWVB Past Ramapo

MAHWAH, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball squad dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College tonight, 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20).

Sharon Starling once again led the team in kills with 12 while Alexa Rivera was close behind with seven of her own. Jaclyn Shrubsall paced the team with 20 assists and added a block assist. Saniyiah Richardson continues to play well for the Scarlet Raiders and put that on display tonight with 22 digs.

Shrubsall gave the Scarlet Raiders a strong start to open the set with a pair of service aces while Rivera added a kill. The Scarlet Raiders would surrender their lead halfway through when the Roadrunners used a 6-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. Ramapo maintained that lead to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, Ramapo used an early 10-0 run to secure their lead which they rode to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Rutgers-Newark stole the third set with their most productive set of the night. The Scarlet Raiders hit .209 as a team with 12 kills while the Roadrunners had their lowest offensive output of the match with just seven kills. An 8-0 run by the Scarlet Raiders was all they needed to set up the fourth set.

The Scarlet Raiders carried their momentum from the third set win over to the fourth, however, they were unable to send the match into a fifth set as the Roadrunners shut the door on the Rutgers-Newark comeback.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, October 16 when they host Albright College at 11:00 am.
