#RUNWVB Upset On Senior Night

NEWARK, NJ | Tracey Ilderis led the Scarlet Raiders with five kills on Senior Night against Rutgers University-Newark but it wasn't enough to topple the Scarlet Raptors. Rutgers-Newark fell in straight sets to their counterparts, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-15), at The Golden Dome.

Julia Farkas, Eliana Rivera, Meredith Moore, and Sharon Starling were all honored before the match tonight. Each senior was given a commemorative picture to go along with their framed jersey and flowers.

Following Ilderis up was Kaiel Maynor and Alexa Rivera, both of which secured four kills on the night. Racking up the assists for the Scarlet Raiders was Starling who topped out at 12. Moore continued to do what she did best all season by adding another pair of assists while Farkas picked up a kill on four attacks. Eliana Rivera added three kills tonight on 9 total attacks.

The Scarlet Raiders came out flatfooted against the Scarlet Raptors tonight and were caught off guard when Kaliyah Moss began serving. Down 6-4, the Scarlet Raptors went on a 15-0 run to flip the script and give them an 18-6 lead. Alexa Rivera tried to ignite a fire under the Scarlet Raiders with a powerful kill but it would fall short as Rutgers-Camden secured the opening set.

Once again it was a long run by the Scarlet Raptors that buried the Scarlet Raiders. Rutgers-Newark trailed by just one point, 11-10, however, Rutgers-Camden used another long run to extend their lead.  Starling broke up the run with a kill to put a tallying on her side of the board, however, the comeback attempt was too little too late as Rutgers-Camden closed out the second set quickly to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third and final set, it was the Rutgers-Camden offense that was on display as they hit .214 in the set. An early lead by the Scarlet Raptors put them in the driver's seat as they cruised to the 25-15 lead to close out the match.

Up next for the Scarlet Raiders is a trip to Brooklyn, NY where they will take on Pratt Institute at 7:00 pm.
