#RUNWVB Concedes NJAC Contest To Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball squad dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match against Rowan University, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15). Rutgers University-Newark dropped to 4-9, 1-3 while Rowan improved to 15-3, 4-0. 

Sharon Starling once again led the Scarlet Raiders in kills with 9 while Jaclyn Shrubsall paced the team with 17 assists. Saniyiah Richardson tallied a team-high 16 digs and tied for the team lead with two service aces.

In the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders fell behind 10-2 which forced them to take an early time out. Rutgers-Newark chipped away at the lead, even scoring four straight points in a comeback attempt, but were unable to keep the momentum going as Rowan would close out the set with three unanswered points. 

The second set saw both teams battling in the early goings until Rowan used a 7-1 run to take a large 16-8 lead. Rutgers-Newark answered with a 6-2 run of their own, which saw kills from Kaiel Maynor and Starling. Down four, the Scarlet Raiders saw an opportunity in front of them but had it taken away as Rowan put together a 5-1 run to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Once again, Rowan used a strong lead as a base to their success, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. The Scarlet Raiders attempted a late push but were unable to complete the comeback as Rowan would sweep the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Tuesday, October 12 at 7pm in The Golden Dome.
