Sencion Leads The Charge Against Drew University

NEWARK, NJ | Miguel Sencion loaded up the scoresheet tonight with a pair of assists and a goal to extend Rutgers-Newark's unbeaten streak to seven with a 3-0 win over Drew University at Frederick Douglass Field. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 7-3-2 while Drew fell to 4-5-1.

As a team, the Scarlet Raiders took 22 shots, putting 9 on frame while holding the Rangers to 11 shots with five on target. Andres Medina tallied his third straight shutout after making five saves tonight and Franco Catania led the team with five shots.

Rutgers-Newark came out with a purpose to start the game, firing off seven shots in the opening 20 minutes. After Sencion came close to finding the back of the net in the 29th minute he would go on to set up Catania for the first goal of the game and his 12th of the season. Sencion used a bit of magic to get the ball and slip it through the gap to find a streaking Catania where he was able to curl it into the net.

The game would remain quiet for a majority of the game until Medina made another world-class save to keep Drew off of the scoreboard. Rutgers-Newark would then capitalize twice in a 30-second span to extend their lead to 3-0 with just five minutes remaining in the game. Sencion was once again the distributor as he found Juan Barrientos who took the pass and blasted his shot into the top left corner for his first collegiate goal.

For the third and final goal, this time it was Sencion who found the back of the net. Juwan Ash slipped a pass to Sencion who then hit a low hard shot into the right side for his first tally of the season.

The Scarlet Raiders will return to action on Saturday, October 9 where they will take on Kean University in an NJAC contest in Union, NJ at 5:00 pm.
