#RUNMBB Suffers First Loss Of The Season To Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ | Quincy Rutherford poured in 22 points in the 75-70 loss to Centenary this evening on the road. The loss marks the first loss of the season for the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark (2-1) shot 37.7% from the field while Centenary (2-1) shot 44.2%. Abe Kromah and BJ Honis added 13 and 11 points, respectively and Dante Ralph led the team with seven rebounds. Rutgers-Newark dominated the glass, outrebounding the Cyclones 43-29, however, it was the Cyclones' efficiency that helped Centenary edge out the Scarlet Raiders.

At the midway points of the opening half, the squads were deadlocked at 17 until Centenary burst into the lead with a 7-0 run. Rutgers-Newark was able to tie it back up at 32 with 1:59 remaining with a layup by Kromah but once again Centenary would take the lead. The Cyclones converted an and-one to end the half and take a 3-point lead into the locker room.

The Scarlet Raiders were sluggish coming out of the break and Centenary turned their three-point lead into a 15-point lead in five minutes. Rutherford hit back-to-back three-point baskets to cut the lead down but the Scarlet Raiders were never able to string together a long run that would put them in the driver's seat.
