MADISON, NJ | Levi Holton and Dante Ralph scored 18 points each as the Scarlet Raiders took down FDU-Florham, 68-62, this evening.
Rutgers-Newark (3-1) received efficient outings from both Holton and Ralph as they shot 9-for-15 and 8-for-11, respectively. BJ Honis paced the team with six rebounds while also dishing out a team-high three assists. FDU-Florham (2-3) shot 43.1% from the field and 34% from three-point range in the loss.
For the first 10 minutes of the game, neither team could establish a foothold and pull away from one another as they continually matched each other offensively. Raymond Mundrick gave the Scarlet Raiders a five point lead with just under five minutes to go, however, the Devils instantly responded and cut the lead down to one. As time whittled away, Quincy Rutherford hit a jumper then cashed in from the charity stripe before Travis Miles hit a layup at the buzzer to send Rutgers-Newark into the locker room with a six point lead.
The Scarlet Raiders came out of the half strong and pushed their lead out to 14 when Abe Kromah wiggled his way to the hoop for a layup. The men would maintain their double-digit lead for a majority of the second half until there was 1:09 left on the clock. The Devils had slowly chipped away at the lead and were able to bring themselves with four of the Scarlet Raiders. Ralph cashed in from behind the arc to push their lead back out to seven and prevent the Devils from making a comeback attempt.
