Explosive First Half Carries #RUMBB Past Kean

UNION, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball squad returned to the win column behind Dante Ralph's 17 points over Kean University. With the 82-64 win, the Scarlet Raiders move to 5-2, 2-0 and the 82 points mark a season-high.

Ralph went a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor in the win and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Abe Kromah added 15 points while BJ Honis and Quincy Rutherford scored 14 and 12, respectively. As a team, the Scarlet Raiders shot a red-hot 61.7% from the floor and 50% from three-point range.

Kean University (6-1, 1-1) suffered their first loss of the season and were led by Patrick Strzala 17 points while Jailen Jamison paved the way with six rebounds.

For the opening 14 minutes of the game, both teams jockeyed for the lead with neither team able to grab hold of the lead. With 4:42 remaining, Rutherford hit a jumper to start a 16-1 run by the Scarlet Raiders to end the half.

The Scarlet Raiders carried that momentum over to the second half where they kept the Cougars at bay with a 37 point outing. Down by double-digits, the Cougars were unable to go on a run to cut the lead down to single digits as the suffocating Rutgers-Newark defense did their part.
