Horton's Herculean Effort Falls Short Against Kean

UNION, NJ | Samiyah Horton had a colossal outing against the Cougars of Kean University, scoring a career-high 36 points in a 72-56 loss in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) bout.

Rutgers-Newark (4-3, 1-1) shot 29.7% from the field and 16.7% from behind the arc. Ebony Odom Barnes paced the team with 10 rebounds while Elisha India Cross added a team-high four steals and eight assists. Kean University (4-4, 2-0) was led by a 27 point 16 rebound double-double by Shannon McCoy en route to their second NJAC win of the year.

After shooting 27.7% in the opening stanza, the Scarlet Raiders rebounded with their highest shooting percentage of the game (35.2%) and second-highest point total (13). Kean used their size against the Scarlet Raiders and dominated the boards, 59-45, which limited Rutgers-Newark's second-chance opportunities.

Out of the break, the Scarlet Raiders shrunk their deficit by scoring 12 points and holding Kean to just 13, however, in the fourth, Kean would go on to score 24 points which kept the Scarlet Raiders from completing their comeback.
