Slow Start Stifles #RUNWBB Against William Paterson

NEWARK, NJ | Samiyah Horton tallied her fourth straight 20+ point game tonight at The Golden Dome, however, it wasn't enough as a slow start against William Paterson put the Scarlet Raiders in a deep hole. Rutgers-Newark had a strong second half but were unable to overcome their first-half woes as they fell, 77-60.

Rutgers-Newark (3-4, 1-2) shot 35% from the floor as a team and just 7.1% from behind the arc. Ebony Odom Barnes picked up her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 boards. Elisha India Cross added five points and three assists while Syncere Lambert tallied 9 points in the loss.

William Paterson (3-3, 3-0) was led by Sierra Strong's 20 point outing. Brianna Brooks tallied an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double while Precious Allah scored 9 points and led the team with six assists.

To open the game, the Scarlet Raiders took some time to get settled as the Pioneers led 10-2 before Odom Barnes was able to cut the lead to one with 45 seconds left in the first quarter. The second quarter is where the Scarlet Raiders had their struggles as their offensive output was unable to match what they did in the first quarter which sent them into the locker room down, 33-21.

The Scarlet Raiders came out of the break and looked like a different team. They poured in 22 points, however, they were unable to make a dent as the Pioneers kept them at bay. With the lead in their hand, the Pioneers sealed the game on the road to win their third NJAC game of the year.
