Horton & Odom Barnes' Strong Night Spoiled By Ramapo, 71-64

MAHWAH, NJ | Samiyah Horton and Ebony Odom Barnes poured in 26 and 22, respectively, as the Scarlet Raiders fell to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 71-64, this evening in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Rutgers-Newark (3-5, 1-3) shot 43.3% from the floor and was led by Odom Barnes on the boards with eight. However, the turning point of the contest was the 50-30 edge that Ramapo (6-2, 2-2) held in the rebound battle. Alie Wickersheim led the Roadrunners with a 12 point, 16 rebound double-double.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the game with a 9-4 run after Elisha India Cross put her squad up by five. Ramapo would respond with a 15-2 run after Rutgers-Newark began to struggle offensively. Rutgers-Newark was able to cut the lead down to six after a Horton jumper but Ramapo would consistently respond with a basket of their own.

Much like their season thus far, the Scarlet Raiders' second half was the best of the game. The Scarlet Raiders would score 15 points in the third before exploding for 26 in the fourth. Rutgers-Newark made a late push in the final stanza, however, they were unable to overcome their early deficit as they fell on the road to the Roadrunners.
