NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team suffered their fourth straight loss of the season tonight at the hands of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), 61-52. With the loss, the Scarlet Raiders fell to 3-6, 1-4 while the Scarlet Raptors improved to 1-8, 1-4.

The Scarlet Raiders implemented an interior game plan tonight against the Scarlet Raptors and through five minutes of the opening stanza, it was working perfectly. Tracey Ilderis and Ebony Odom Barnes teamed up to exploit Rutgers-Camden from the inside to the tune of a 9-1 opening run. A change in momentum allowed the Scarlet Raptors to head into the second quarter with just a one-point deficit.

In the second quarter, both teams found their offense with the Scarlet Raiders edging out the Scarlet Raptors, 22-15. Rutgers-Newark continued with their game plan which eventually opened up the deep shots for Samiyah Horton and Elisha India Cross. Horton and Cross took advantage of Rutgers-Camden deploying extra defenders to the interior with baskets from behind the arc. With the Scarlet Raiders finding success from anywhere on the court, they took a 31-23 lead into the half.

Rutgers-Newark's offense stalled coming out of the half as they scored just eight points while Rutgers-Camden came out strong and poured in 20 points. Tiazha Jackson gave the Scarlet Raptors the lead with 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter with a turnaround jumper. With the lead in their hand, Rutgers-Camden held the Scarlet Raiders off for the remainder of the game to earn their first win of the season.
