Strong Defense & Red-Hot Shooting Power #RUNMBB Past Rutgers-Camden

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team held Rutgers-Camden to just 44 points, marking the second straight game they've held their opponents to under 50 points. Rutgers-Newark led wire-to-wire to defeat Rutgers-Camden 79-44 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Rutgers-Newark shot a blistering 57% from the floor in the game, including 68% in the first half. Jamir Patterson led the Scarlet Raiders with 14 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the floor which included a spectacular alley-oop in the second half. Quincy Rutherford and BJ Honis scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Scarlet Raiders put their defensive prowess on display in the first half of tonight's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) clash against the Scarlet Raptors. In the first half the Scarlet Raiders' 30th ranked defense held Rutgers-Camden to just 11 points on 4-of-21 shooting from the floor. Jamir Patterson highlighted the first half, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from behind the arc for a team-high 10 points. 

Rutgers-Camden cut the lead within two before Rutgers-Newark ripped off a 22-3 run that lasted 11 minutes which put the Scarlet Raptors in a big hole. 

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders continued to find the bottom of the net, however, the Scarlet Raptors began to crack open Rutgers-Newark's defense. Due to the outstanding first half, the Scarlet Raiders were able to weather the storm against the Scarlet Raptors. With the large lead, the Scarlet Raiders brought the reserve players on with Tyrone Bowens and Travis Miles each recording highlight plays. Darris Watkins cashed in on a corner three late in the game to tally his first points of the season.
