#RUNMVB Falter Against Kean, 3-0

UNION, NJ | The ninth-ranked Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad stumbled for the second night in a row against the Cougars of Kean University, 3-0.

Kean University 3, #9 Rutgers University-Newark 0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-23)

Andrew Zaleck was the only Scarlet Raider to record double-digit kills in the match tonight with 12 while Arvind Kumar, Robert Long, and Daniel Quay all secured four. Justin Tuohy tallied 23 assists while Long led the way with four digs.

Jared Ray stepped up for the Cougars this evening and secured 15 kills and Jacob Milnazik added 10. Ian Capp collected 18 assists in the win while adding a team-high five service aces.

The Scarlet Raiders held a 15-10 lead halfway through the opening set of the match and looked set to take the opening game, however, the Cougars once again stifled Rutgers-Newark's offense down the stretch. Rutgers-Newark held a slight 20-18 lead before the Cougars ripped off a 7-2 run to steal the first set. 

Kean University carried that momentum over into the second set and handed the Scarlet Raiders their worse loss of the season. Kean jumped out to a 7-1 lead before extending their run with a late 6-0 run which gave them a 21-9 lead. 

Rutgers University-Newark regained their form in the third set but it wasn't enough to usurp the surging Cougars as they would go on to complete the sweep with a 25-23 win.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action this Saturday when they host Immaculata in a doubleheader that starts at 2:00 p.m.
