Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Tom Krychkowski

#9 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Immaculata, 3-0, 3-0

NEWARK, NJ | #9 Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball program completed their regular season schedule this afternoon with a sweep of Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) opponents, Immaculata University at The Golden Dome on Senior Day.

Before the first match of the afternoon, Robert Long, Nicholas Arce-Cox, and Travis Emenaker were all honored before the match.

Match 1: #9 Rutgers University-Newark 3, Immaculata 0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12)

#9 Rutgers University-Newark (6-4, 5-4) was led by Andrew Zaleck in the kill column with 10. Long finished second on the team with eight kills and six digs. Daniel Quay had an outstanding hitting day and had six kills and hit .750. Arce-Cox added seven kills and a pair of blocks in the opening match. Emenaker collected 32 assists in the match which led the team.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the match with a massive 15-6 lead over the Mighty Macs. During the 8-2 run that helped the Scarlet Raiders jump out to their large lead, Zaleck secured a trio of service aces while Long picked up a kill. The Mighty Macs tried to erase their deficit but they were too far behind to complete the comeback as Long closed the door with a service ace.

Once again Rutgers University-Newark came out of the gates red-hot and jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Emenaker was precise with his serves which caused trouble for Immaculata. This time, the Scarlet Raiders wouldn't allow the Mighty Macs to climb their way back into the set. Late in the set, the Scarlet Raiders went on a 7-0 run when Emenaker was once again behind the service line. Arce-Cox, Zaleck, and Justin Tuohy all took advantage and secured kills during that run.

It was more of the same in the third and final set as the Scarlet Raiders took a large lead. A series of early errors by Immaculata set Rutgers-Newark up for the sweep as they did just that as Arvind Kumar secured a pair of kills late to help close it out for the Scarlet Raiders.

Match 2: #9 Rutgers University-Newark 3, Immaculata 0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-12)

#9 Rutgers University-Newark (7-4, 6-4) had Kumar pace the way for them with 9 kills and seven service aces. Emenaker once again led the team with 17 assists while Tuohy was close behind with 12. Arce-Cox added another pair of blocks to his total while finishing tied for third on the team with five kills.

The Scarlet Raiders wouldn't allow the Mighty Macs to climb back into the first set as they did in the first match and quickly ended it when Kumar hit three straight service aces to seal the deal in their favor.

After a close early portion of the second set, Rutgers-Newark pulled away with a 10-1 run which put them up 23-10. Kumar would put his team up 2-0 in the match with a service ace to send the Mighty Macs back to the bench.

In the third, the Scarlet Raiders had a strong performance yet again. Arce-Cox put his squad up 21-9 which allowed his team to push forward to secure the win.
