#RUNBB Bats Go Cold Against The Pioneers

WAYNE, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team saw their losing skid continue this afternoon against William Paterson University, 11-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Friday afternoon.

Rutgers University-Newark (1-11, 1-11 NJAC) was held to just one hit in the game this afternoon against the Pioneers. Chris Suleski broke out of his hitting slump to prevent the Scarlet Raiders from getting no-hit. Michael Matusz (0-2) pitched 3.2 innings and allowed six hits with two strikeouts.

William Paterson University (18-5, 9-3 NJAC) recorded 15 hits and scored 11 runs with just one fielding error. Steve Yelin finished 4-for-5 with 3 RBI while Steven DiGirolamo went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Jason Palmeri (4-2) pitched five innings of one-hit action with six strikeouts for the Pioneers.

The opening pair of stanzas went scoreless, however, the Scarlet Raiders nearly scored in the second when Suleski tripled to right-center with two outs. Suleski would be left stranded after Nick Zobian lined out to center field.

William Paterson would break the ice with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third which would be all they needed to win the game. The Pioneers would go on to score 9 more runs as the Scarlet Raiders struggled to get their offense going.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action tomorrow against Stockton University for an NJAC doubleheader.
