#RUNMSOC Defeats Penn St - Behrend in Brick City Classic Opener

NEWARK, NJ | A trio of goal scorers lift the Scarlet Raiders to their second straight win with a 3-1 victory over Penn State - Behrend this evening as part of the Brick City Classic. Moravian took down TCNJ in two extra times with just 1:22 left on the clock in the opening game of the Brick City Classic.

As a team, Rutgers-Newark fired off 19 shots and put 12 on target against the Lions, while Penn St. - Behrend took 11 shots with six finding the frame. Andres Medina made five outstanding saves tonight to keep his team in the game. Franco Catania once again led the team in shots with five and was able to put four of them on target with one finding the back of the net.

Joshua Breton-Jones opened his scoring ledger for the season when he broke free in the box on a corner kick and headed it home for the game's opening goal. Erick Morales was able to curl it into the opening where Breton-Jones seized the opportunity in the 34th minute.

14 minutes later, Juwan Ash scored his second of the season when Catania sent a low cross into the box where Ash redirected it into the back of the net for the game's second goal. The Scarlet Raiders found themselves in familiar territory with a 2-0 lead when the Lions struck back.

Justin LeDonne had a loose ball find his foot inside the box where he was able to tap it in for an easy goal and cut into the Scarlet Raiders' lead. Rutgers-Newark wasn't done scoring as Catania got in on the scoring action with three minutes to go when Ryan Caruso came screaming down the right side of the field and slipped a pass to Catania who was able to bang it home for his fourth of the season.

The men will return to action on Sunday when they play Moravian for the second day of the Brick City Classic at Frederick Douglass Field.
