#RUNWVB Stumbles Against Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, PA | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball team took on Muhlenberg in the early window this morning and fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14). With the loss, Rutgers University-Newark dropped to 1-6 on the year.

Alexa Rivera and Tracey Ilderis led the way for the Scarlet Raiders with eight kills each while Sharon Starling tallied a team-high 10 assists. Ilderis  and Starling also led the team with 9 digs each. 

In the opening set, Rutgers-Newark and Muhlenberg traded points and it remained close until Muhlenberg went on a 5-1 run to push their lead out to 15-9. The Scarlet Raiders made a comeback attempt, using a 9-1 run but it was too little too late as Muhlenberg found their footing and scored the two points they needed to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

After a 3-0 run gave the Scarlet Raiders a one-point, 17-16, lead, Muhlenberg responded with a 3-0 run of their own to give them the lead once more. Ilderis brought the Scarlet Raiders back within one with a kill to make it 21-20, but that would be the final point by the Scarlet Raiders as Muhlenberg ended the set on a 5-0 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 

With Muhlenberg taking the two opening sets, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to swing momentum in their favor in the third set. 

The Scarlet Raiders return to action Tuesday, September 21 when they host DeSales at 7:00 pm.
