#RUNWVB Suffers Third Straight Loss

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad dropped their third straight match this evening, 3-0 (25-16, 29-27, 25-18), to DeSales Univesity at The Golden Dome. The Scarlet Raiders dropped to 1-7 overall while the Bulldogs moved to 6-4.

Tracey Ilderis continues to have a standout season in her rookie campaign for the Scarlet Raiders as she led the team with 10 kills while hitting .182. Jaclyn Shrubsall paced the team with 21 assists while Saniyiah Richardson and Alexa Rivera shared the lead with 16 digs apiece. Meredith Moore made herself known at the net tonight as she picked up a team-high three blocks.

Delanie Zohler led the Bulldogs with 11 kills while Grace Grandinetti led the way with 17 assists.

Rutgers-Newark fell behind early in the opening stanza of tonight's match as they surrendered six points while only scoring one of their own. A three-point rally would bring the Scarlet Raiders back within one, but DeSales would dig in and push their lead back out to five. Another 5-1 run by DeSales eventually put the opening set out of reach for the Scarlet Raiders as they would go on to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Scarlet Raiders reversed course in set two and had a hot start, jumping out to a 5-2 lead. DeSales would quickly recover and take a 10-8 before Alexa Rivera brought it back to level with a pair of kills. The Bulldogs retaliated with a 7-1 run which set them up to run away with the set, however, the Scarlet Raiders had other plans. Rutgers-Newark fought back, thanks to a 5-0 run, to push the set past 25. Eliana Rivera put her team in the driver's seat with a kill, however, her team was unable to capitalize as DeSales would answer right back. An attacking error by the Scarlet Raiders would see them fall in the second set and fall behind in the match 2-0.

After a heartbreaking loss in the second set, the Scarlet Raiders pulled it together to try and send the match past a third set but were unable to overcome the offensive firepower of the Bulldogs.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Thursday, September 23 when they travel across the bridge to take on NJAC rivals, NJCU.
