#RUNMSOC Knocks Off #12 Rowan, 2-1

GLASSBORO, NJ | Joshua Breton-Jones and Franco Catania each found the back of the net tonight against #12 Rowan University in a 2-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win.

Rutgers University-Newark (5-3-1, 1-0-1 NJAC) took 11 shots in tonight's game with seven of them finding their target. Andres Medina was called upon to make just one save tonight as #12 Rowan University (6-1, 1-1 NJAC) managed just two shots on target with one getting past Medina.

The men started the game with a sense of urgency and tested James Weinberg early and often. Miguel Sencion and Franco Catania each put a shot wide in the first 9 minutes of the contest. The first goal of the game would come from the penalty spot in the 21st minute. Catania netted his 11th goal of the season, putting him tied for second in the nation, with the penalty kick to give the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 lead over the Profs.

Rutgers-Newark capitalized on another opportunity just two minutes later when Sencion flew down the left flank and hit a low cross into the box where Breton-Jones was waiting. Breton-Jones redirected the ball into the lower right corner to give the Scarlet Raiders a 2-0 lead in quick succession.

Rowan eventually found their way onto the scoresheet in the 70th minute with a shot into the lower corner that just squeaked under Medina. Things began to unravel for the Profs after that as Leo Montesinos was issued a red card as was Jake Logar. From there, the Scarlet Raiders would drain out the clock and get back on the bus with a crucial NJAC win.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Wednesday, September 29 when they host New Jersey City University at 7:30 pm for another NJAC showdown.
