#RUNWVB Use Offensive Onslaught to Silence Lehman

BRONX, NY | The women's volleyball team returned to the win column this evening with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-7) sweep of Lehman College. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improved to 3-8 while Lehman dropped to 0-4 on the year.

Alexa Rivera led the charge for the Scarlet Raiders this evening with 12 kills while hitting .375 for the match. Not far behind were Sharon Starling with eight and Kaiel Maynor with seven. Jaclyn Shrubsall recorded the second-highest assist tally of her career with 31 while Starling recorded a match-high 9 service aces. Saniyiah Richardson added six digs on the night.

The Scarlet Raiders took a 15-7 lead in the opening set using kills from Starling and Eliana Rivera while Alexa Rivera and Rebekah Barnes added service aces. The Lightning made a comeback attempt with four straight points, however, the Scarlet Raiders responded with seven unanswered to push their lead out to 22-11. Kills by Maynor and Starling with a service ace sprinkled in by Rivera would wrap up the first set for the Scarlet Raiders to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Rutgers-Newark found their stride in the second set, going on a 13-1 run which was led by a plethora of kills and aces by Starling. The 13-1 run put the Scarlet Raiders up 20-6 before Maynor and Moore registered kills to take a 2-0 lead against Lehman.

The Scarlet Raiders would carry that momentum over into the final stanza where they would once again jump out to a large lead that they would hang on to.

The women will look to win back-to-back matches for the first time this season when they host the Bearcats of Baruch College tomorrow night at 7:00 pm at The Golden Dome.
