#RUNWVB Wins Second Straight With 3-1 Win Over Baruch

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball squad picked up their second straight win tonight with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 12-25, 25-20) victory over Baruch College. With the win, the Scarlet Raiders moved to 4-8 while Baruch dropped to 2-10 on the year.

Sharon Starling and Alexa Rivera tallied 14 and 11 kills, respectively in the win. Jaclyn Shrubsall added 32 assists while Saniyiah Richardson picked up 21 digs. Meredith Moore did her job at the net and earned two blocks.

The opening set was a back and forth battle with each team trading runs. Baruch lead 23-19 and looked poised to take the opening set of the match, however, the Scarlet Raiders settled in and used a 7-1 run to steal the opening set. Kaiel Maynor secured a kill and a service ace during that run, while Starling recorded two kills to end the set.

Rutgers-Newark jumped out in front 10-4 to start the second set but that lead wouldn't last long as Baruch cut the lead down to three, 16-13. Once again a late surge propelled the Scarlet Raiders to a 2-0 lead in the match.

Baruch came out strong in the third set, and quickly took a 12-3 lead. Rutgers-Newark went on a 5-0 with kills by Rivera and Starling to cut the lead down to five. A 7-0 run pushed the lead out to 22-10 in favor of Baruch which put the Scarlet Raiders in a hole they were unable to climb out of.

Rutgers-Newark used a 10-2 run midway through the fourth set to put them in the driver's seat, 21-12. Baruch made a comeback attempt, however, it was too late as Rivera would pick up two kills to close out the match in favor of the Scarlet Raiders.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Tuesday, October 5 when they travel to Glassboro, NJ to take on Rowan University for an NJAC bout.
