Women's Volleyball Falls to Stockton, 3-0

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's volleyball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match to Stockton University on Thursday evening, 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-12). The loss dropped the Scarlet Raiders down to 0-15, 0-6 while Stockton improved to 13-6, 5-1.

Stockton came out strong in the opening set, taking a 7-0 lead over the Scarlet Raiders which forced them to call a timeout. The Osprey's tallied another pair of points before a point swung over to the Scarlet Raiders via an attacking error. Kaiel Maynor recorded the Scarlet Raiders' first kill of the set which sparked the offense. Maynor added another kill sandwiched between a pair of kills by Alexis Jones. The surge wouldn't last long as Rutgers-Newark was plagued by errors which further extended Stockton's lead. Maryann Ijeh and Alexa Rivera tried to reignite Rutgers-Newark's offense, but before they could, Stockton closed the door to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, the Scarlet Raiders were more composed early on and took a 3-2 before Stockton stormed back to take a 9-3 lead. Once in control, the Osprey's cruised to a 25-8 victory to jump up to a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Scarlet Raiders had their best hitting performance of the match in the third and final set, however, they were unable to slow down the offensive powerhouse of Stockton. Trailing 12-10, the Scarlet Raiders' offense went quiet as the Osprey's went on an 8-0 run to go up 20-10. Maynor tallied a kill on a pass from Jackie Rosario to bring Rutgers-Newark within 9 but it was too little too late as attacking errors handed Stockton the win.
