#RUNWVB Stumbles on Senior Night Against Ramapo

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders women's volleyball played valiantly on senior night, but ultimately fell, 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19, 25-11). The loss drops the Scarlet Raiders down to 1-17, 0-8 while Ramapo improved to 10-8, 3-5. Before the match, Stefani Talevska, Angie Santos, Saniyiah Richardson and Alexa Rivera were honored with commemorative pictures.

Ramapo took advantage of early errors by the Scarlet Raiders which pushed the Roadrunners out to a 7-2 lead. Out of the timeout, the Scarlet Raiders, led by an ace from Jackie Rosario, took an 8-7 lead. The timeout was just what the Scarlet Raiders needed as they kept momentum on their side and stretched out to a 15-12 lead. During their run, Alexa Rivera, Aliyah Sanchez, and Kaiel Maynor all picked up a kill. Still in the lead towards the end of the set, Maryann Ijeh joined Rivera and Sanchez in strengthening the Scarlet Raiders' lead. After an impressive rally, Sanchez gave Rutgers-Newark the set with a set-sealing kill to go up 1-0 in the match.

Ignited by a kill from Ijeh, the Scarlet Raiders pulled briefly ahead behind an ace from Rosario. Ramapo came running back, after several impressive rallies by both teams, to take a 16-14 lead forcing Rutgers-Newark to take a timeout. The timeout didn't do the Scarlet Raiders any favors as Ramapo continued to remain in front. A 6-2 run down the stretch by Ramapo firmly put them in the driver's seat for a 25-18 win and to knot the match up at one.

In the third set, the Scarlet Raiders fell behind early, 6-2, and had to call an early timeout to regroup. Rutgers-Newark clawed their way back into the set, however, Ramapo dug their feet in and increased their lead to 17-13. Kills by Rivera and Sanchez paired with two errors by Ramapo brought the Scarlet Raiders within four, however, the Roadrunners would secure the final two points to go up 2-1 in the match.

Ramapo carried their momentum over from the third set into the fourth and tallied 12 kills with just one error. The Roadrunners jumped out to a large lead early which they would carry all throughout the set.
