Caruso Scores in 1-1 Draw Against NJCU

JERSEY CITY, NJ | In the final regular season New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game, the Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team drew New Jersey City University (NJCU), 1-1. The Scarlet Raiders move to 7-6-5, 4-2-3 while NJCU slid to 8-4-2, 3-4-2. Both teams will now await as the rest of the NJAC finishes their games to determine their seeding for the NJAC Tournament.

It was NJCU who registered the first goal of the game in the 21st minute. Jonathan Caballero took a pass and hit a shot from 25 yards out that snuck past Christian Andrach to put the Gothic Knights up 1-0. The Gothic Knights would carry that lead into the half despite being out shot by the Scarlet Raiders, 8-2.

Out of the break, the Scarlet Raiders would strike back. Just two minutes into the second stanza, Ryan Caruso found an opening to level the game at one. Rutgers-Newark kept the pressure on and tallied 12 more shots in the second half, however, former Rutgers-Newark goalie, Nick Linebaugh, was up for the task and made seven saves. In the final moments of the game, Pablo Moreno had two chances to steal three points but was denied on both.
